Our medicine Concept

Today the field of medicine is being influenced by opposing forces: many patients have turned away from so-called "conventional medicine", which is often considered overly technical, automated and estranged and - due to the flood of information e.g. from the World Wide Web - is increasingly being called into question.

The history of natural medicine impressively reflects this phenomenon of our era, which, in comparison, has become fast-living. Acentury-old medical philosophy and the fundamental doctrines of humoralpathology (the teachings on bodily fluids; sickness as a disequilibrium of the four humors), which were strongly influenced by such outstanding physicians as Sydenham, Paracelsus and Hufeland, appeared, at the end of the 19th century, to have been exposed as erroneous tenets and charlatanism. This led to a complete rejection of, for example, the old, established purgative methods like the use of leeches, cupping and blood letting.

A new direction in medicine, cellular pathology (Rudolf Virchow's summons to understand cells as the origins of disease and to seek therapeutic approaches from this pathophysiological perspective), the conventional medicine of today, quickly delivered spectacular improvements in therapy and paved the way to medicine becoming an established natural science.

In the middle of the 20th century it was recognized, however, that the exclusive use of so-called "conventional medicine", especially in the treatment of chronic illnesses, was not always successful. This led to a"renaissance" and a re-discovery of the old humoral pathological methods through Dr. B. Aschner. The"re-discovery" of acupuncture and the implementation of TCM in European medicine after

World War II also fall within this phase of re-orientation in medicine.
The Kneipp Foundations represent the "originalinstitutions" of Kneipp: establishment of the Sebastianeum in1891, establishment of the Kneipp children's sanatorium in 1893, as well as establishment of the Kneippianum in 1896.

In general, we consider ourselves - as the successors of Kneipp - to be the oldest and largest European medical facility for integrative medicine (internal medicine and classical naturopathy), i.e. every day we attempt to bridge the gap for each patient between acknowledged conventional treatments and evaluated naturopathic diagnosis and therapy methods.

We are at your disposal as a center for Kneipp's holistic methods, for complementary medicine and for rehabilitation. All treatment methods are supervised by specially trained physicians and therapists.
"Kneipp's holistic method" developed over 100 years ago by pastor Kneipp is more relevant today than ever. We optimally merge and integrate a multitude of treatment options from both conventional medicine and naturopathy with Kneipp's approach.
